The GNRC Junior Program continues to grow under the leadership of Head Coach, Alex Walker. We race hard and push each other to be our best. We are always accepting new rowers with any level of experience (including none!). We are equipped with well trained coaches to help our athletes reach for their goals.
For more information please contact the rowing office at 250-384-0736.
The program is open to both experienced athletes who have raced in previous Spring and Summer seasons and to novice athletes who have completed a High School season or Intermediate Rowing program.
All fees are included for local racing; additional charges will be assessed for off Island and optional regattas.
This program is aimed at junior rowers who have either national team aspirations or are looking to move seamlessly into a Canadian university rowing program. GNRC works closely with the University of Victoria to create an environment which prepares junior rowers for the next level or rowing in Canada.
Registrants are required to understand the demands of training six days per week and must be able to commit to a minimum of 100 km of training per week. If you are not a current junior rower with GNRC please contact Alex Walker before registering for this program. Registrants will require lights to row before sunrise.
Schedule: Monday to Friday 5-7am, Saturday 7-9am
This program is for ages 12 to 18. Students must have completed either High School Season, Intermediate Rowing Camp or a Learn to Row Program. Practices are on-water only (no land training).
This high intensity training phase will keep athletes on the water, but also focus a lot on land based training.
The Spring Competitive program is for athletes aged 12 -18 who want to develop their technical ability, rowing specific fitness, and racing skill. The goal of the program is to support the athletes towards achieving their goals while giving them positive experiences and opportunities for success. The program is open to both experienced athletes who have raced in previous Spring and Summer seasons and to novice athletes who have completed a High School season or Intermediate Rowing program.
