In previous years, we have offered a full year Performance program along with seasonal programs for Development, Novice, and Under-15 rowers. Our athletes practiced in everything from single person sculling boats to eight person sweep shells.
We love our big boats, but they're just not compatible with the steps we've taken to keep our rowers and coaches safe during COVID-19.
Our new programs focus on singles, household doubles, and household pairs on the water, along with off water outdoor training on our rowing machines to build strength and technique.
Our goals are to build skills, build endurance, get ready for the time when we can race again, and, as always, to foster a love of rowing and community in our athletes.
Over time, we expect the current COVID-19 restrictions to ease, but we don't know when that will happen, or the form that the easing will take.
Our plan is to stay flexible from season to season, to resume training in larger boats when that is possible, and to increase our capacity as the situation allows.
We will do our best to communicate with our athletes and their families.
If you are interested in rowing this year, please reach out to us and ask to be added to our waiting list. That will help you stay informed, and will help us start up programs faster.
Since March 2020, GNRC has been committed to being a community leader in the COVID-19 pandemic. We are looking forward to when our program can return to full capacity but in the meantime, we are doing everything we can to provide quality, in-person rowing instruction.
It is our hope we will be able to resume the youth Learn to Row program, including summer camps, as 2021 unfolds. Our junior program will continue to be focused on technical fundamentals and aerobic base fitness until we are able to return to racing.
